What This Tool Does

Most comp plan spreadsheets break the moment you add a second rep or try to model a mid-year rate change. This tool is built for B2B sales leaders who need to see the full-year cost of a comp plan before they commit to it.

Enter your rep's territory, starting month, revenue target, gross profit margin, base salary, and commission rate. Add escalation or de-escalation tiers that kick in at a specific month. The calculator projects every month of the plan year — base, commission, and total comp — and rolls it up into an annual summary.

Add up to 20 reps and compare total comp cost, gross profit coverage, and effective commission rates across the entire team in one view. If you need help designing the plan itself — not just modeling it — that is what a fractional sales manager does.

Rate holds at Starting Rate until Escalation Starts month, then increases by Escalation % each month until it reaches Peak Rate (the ceiling). Example: 6% start / 2% escalation / 30% peak / month 13 → stays 6% through month 12, then month 13: 8%, month 14: 10%, month 15: 12%… stepping 2% per month until capped at 30%.

How to Use the Sales Comp Plan Creator Tool

01

Add a rep

Click Add Rep to create a new plan. Each rep gets their own tab. Name and territory are for your reference — they appear on the output card.

02

Set revenue and margin

Enter the rep's annual revenue target and your gross profit percentage. Commission is calculated on gross profit, not revenue — this is the number that matters for comp cost modeling.

03

Set base salary and de-escalation

Enter the annual base salary. If the base steps down mid-year (common in ramp-to-full-draw structures), enter the de-escalation percentage and the month it takes effect.

04

Set commission rate and tiers

Enter the base commission rate as a percentage of gross profit. If you want the rate to increase after a ramp period, enter an escalation percentage and the month it starts. If the rate steps down, use de-escalation instead.

05

Read the output

The right panel shows annual totals and a month-by-month table. Escalated months are highlighted green; de-escalated months in red. The summary bar shows total comp cost and comp as a percentage of gross profit across all reps.
